Studio (150 sq. ft.) in Abiquiu, NM
0 miles from Abiquiu Lake
We have received the NM COVID Safe Certification. We follow the "Stay Safe" guidelines through the American Hotel and Lodging Association. The El Sol ("The Sun") Studio is an economy guest room with a queen-sized bed and inspiring views. Located on a mesa top above Abiquiu Lake, you will wake up every morning with spectacular lake and red rock views. The rooms are glamping at its best - defined as glamorous camping - but with air conditioning, a wonderful bed, private bathroom, hot water and spectacular views! Staying in The Studios is about the 'experience' - unplugging and disconnecting (if you choose to), immersing yourself in your surroundings, taking in the night skies and fresh air, hiking from your door, and recharging your spirit. The guest room is about 150 sq ft and has a queen-sized bed, private bath, an oversized shower, private sliding door entrance, heat, hot water, air conditioning and spectacular views. The guest room is furnished with linens, towels, toiletries, a microwave, toaster oven and K-cup coffee maker. If you need a cooler for food products, just let us know and we will have one outside the room when you check in. We will have a mini fridge available by early July. Shared outside common areas include a BBQ grill, outdoor seating, as well as free parking. ?As small economy guest rooms, the The Studios do not have WiFi (although your cell phone should work fine at the location and you can use your cell as a hot spot) or televisions. Bring all your food and drink provisions with you. Bring prepared foods or plan to prepare simple meals in the microwave, toaster oven or outside on the BBQ. The Studios are perfect additional rooms for nearby vacation home rentals. They are also great lodging options for solo travelers, couples, outdoor artists or those taking workshops at Ghost Ranch. If you don't need a lot of space or a kitchen, The Studios may be a great option for you. There are two separate guest rooms in the secondary building so another couple may be renting the second guest room. We live nearby and are available should you need anything. We generally can respond in person or by text immediately. We do provide a code for the door so you can arrive anytime after the scheduled check-in time for easy self-checking, without needing to coordinate with us. ?All our properties are located outside the village of Abiquiu on Abiquiu Lake. It is about a 20 minute drive to Abiquiu. Stay remotely, yet enjoy conveniences! You are welcome to take advantage of our Mercado (located at The Grand Hacienda Bed and Breakfast in the neighborhood) or order online: gifts, books, cards, local art, bath/body products, jewelry, snacks, food items, and more. There is a wonderful history in this area - from dinosaurs, to Native American pueblos, to Spanish explorers, to cattle wrestlers, to ghosts and witches, to Georgia O'Keeffe - all the way to our current age where the past history and culture blends with the artist colony that Abiquiu has become. The room is located in a gated community off of Abiquiu Lake. You will be stepping into what feels like a Georgia O'Keeffe picture - with the lake and red rocks in front of you and Pedernal standing guard behind you. The Studios are located in a secondary building on an 8 acre property. The room is conveniently located near Ghostranch, Echo Amphitheater, Monastery of Christ in the Desert, Plaza Blanca, Pedernal, and the Carson National Forest. You will also want to explore the Purple Adobe Lavender Farm, rafting the Chama River, the Ra Paulette Cave Tour and Ojo Caliente. You will need a car. During winter months, we recommend a 4WD or AWD as many of the roads in New Mexico are dirt/gravel. The roads back to the studios are dirt/gravel. We understand these are challenging times for travel, but we do believe our remote location away from the crowds provides a perfect setting for these times. While cleanliness has always been a priority, we have now implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures at all our properties in between guests. We disinfect all high touch surfaces (light switches, door knobs, etc) as the home is disinfected. We wash all linens in hot water. We have removed decorative pillows and throws. We encourage you to enter the home without shoes. Our staff wear gloves and masks. Finally, we provide for self-check-in so you are able to come and go without contact. We want you to feel safe when you stay at our properties, so do reach out if you have any questions. We recommend purchasing trip insurance in case your travel plans change or if you have concerns about traveling. As a small business, we are significantly affected by cancellations and must adhere to a strict cancellation policy. Although we understand situations arise making cancellations unavoidable, we do not take responsibility for changes to your reservation due to delayed arrivals, early departures, inclement weather, unforeseen changes to travel plans, medical or family emergencies, work conflicts, missed or cancelled flights, pandemics, force majeure, etc. Travel insurance is used to protect your trip in the event of cancellation, or you can self-insure by taking on the risk yourself. Please note that as a small business owner, we cannot act as your travel insurance. After you confirm your booking, we will email you a rental agreement to sign and a request for a security deposit hold on your credit card. This hold is released after you check out provided there are no damages.

THE EXPERIENCE Prepare for a vacation get-away in a truly magical location with spectacular views, stillness, natural isolation, and rooted in history and culture. This two-bedroom, two-bath home on Abiquiu Lake - with access to the lake from the owner's two private waterfront lots - provides all you need for the perfect get-away. Many of our guests return every year, and we hope you do, too! The Casita del Lago was built into the rocky shore above Abiquiu Lake, and the 22-acre property extends down to the lake (and actually out into the middle of the lake). The home has two bedrooms and two baths; a full and modern kitchen; an open concept family room with a fireplace; a dining area with stunning views; and laundry facilities. The floor-to-ceiling windows capture the amazing views from every direction: Abiquiu Lake, the Chama River, Abiquiu's million-year-old red cliffs, green and purple fields, Cerro Pedernal, Carson National Forest, Ghost Ranch, and more. We subscribe to cable TV and the fastest Internet in the area - and both are offered to you free of charge. We also include charcoal for the BBQ grill, laundry supplies, and many spices/seasonings. We supply the firewood for the outdoor chiminea and fire pit. If you plan to use the indoor fireplace, please bring the appropriate number of Duraflame logs for your use indoors. Outside, you will find heated patios, amazing spots to sit and take in the views, an infrared propane grill, a hot tub built into the rocks, a fire pit overlooking the arroyo, a hiking path to the lake, and 40 acres to explore. The home is conveniently located to visit Ghostranch, Echo Amphitheater, Monastery of Christ in the Desert, Plaza Blanca, Pedernal, and the Carson National Forest. You will also want to explore the Purple Adobe Lavender Farm, whitewater rafting down the Chama River, Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs, Native American pueblos, and other amazing sites. Plan easy day trips to Santa Fe, Taos, Cumbres and Toltec Railroad, and Bandelier National Monument. Visit Los Alamos and learn about the Manhattan Project. You are welcome to take advantage of our Mercado (located at The Grand Hacienda Bed and Breakfast in the neighborhood) or order online: gifts, books, cards, local art, bath/body products, jewelry, snacks, food items, and more. Our Mercado is available for online ordering and we will deliver your items to your doorstep. Would you like to tour local artists' galleries? Reach out and our concierge can help. This system records only the motion of the outside front door area and not any of the private areas or inside the home. We value your safety, security and privacy. The Casita frequently books months in advance. If The Casita del Lago is booked - consider our one-bedroom/one-bath vacation home (Abiquiu Lake Mesa) or our luxury bed and breakfast property (The Grand Hacienda). House (1500 sq. ft.) in Gallina, NM
0 miles from Abiquiu Lake
'Breathtaking,' 'Fabulous,' 'Stellar,' 'Magical' - Casa del Rio, a unique southwestern home awaits those who seek a glimpse into what the West was like – before it was “won.” Casa del Rio offers timeless views of the Rio Chama, Abiquiu Lake, Ghost Ranch - with no other habitation to confound the imagination. The house rests on a mesa about 100 feet above the narrowest part of the Rio Chama, just before it empties into Abiquiu Lake. Guests of the Casa enjoy limited access to the private lakefront. Four circles of stones (tipi rings) found on the land are silent proof that these vistas have been enjoyed by people for hundreds of years. Inside the 1500 square foot house, you will find all the luxuries and amenities of the 21st century. An open floor plan includes a great room, dining area, and kitchen; all under hand-hewn vigas harvested from the San Juan forest. Leather couches, swivel chair, Taos-made furniture - all make it a pleasure to take in the ever changing landscape in any direction. (Be sure to catch the dawn when the morning light descends upon the water). Hand painted retablo and santos, Navaho and Zapotec rugs, prints by RC Gorman, and Georgia O'Keefe all enhance the experience of being immersed in the southwest. The kitchen features granite countertops, energy saving appliances, and an island with cooktop. A 42” LED satellite TV, WiFi, and soundbar provide connection to the modern world. (for those who must) Soft foam, queen size mattresses, resort quality bedding ensure your night’s rest – so you can be prepared for your next day’s adventure... Located in the heart of the Piedra Lumbre (Valley of the Shining Stones) Casa del Rio was designed for outdoor living. Covered portales on the east, north, and west sides provide shade from the ever bright New Mexico sun. The concave shape of the house provides shelter from wind and wraps around an additional 800 square feet of a Colorado red flagstone courtyard. On the courtyard, or under the portal, you will find; a three-burner gas grill, two lounge chairs, a love seat, and table and dining chairs for four. To complete your Abiquiu experience there is an outdoor hot tub positioned for panoramic river and mountain views. For those who prefer, there is also a two-person, heart-shaped bath. Full moon nights are so bright you can see colors on the walls of the river canyon. On moonless nights the stars seem so close you could almost reach up and touch them... Regarding the coronavirus, I would like my guests to know that I take the pandemic very seriously.  In addition to already high standards for cleanliness, all surface areas and commonly touched objects like keys, doorknobs, TV remote, etc. are cleaned and disinfected between visits. The waters of Abiquiu provide an important resting place for migratory birds; a virtual oasis in a land of desert and mountains. Eagles, osprey, geese, and many other species take time to have their needs met on their way to other destinations. Perhaps this description may one day apply to you!

Travel to this home and meet some favulous people in this glorious place." Guest review, 2021. THE EXPERIENCE The Grand Hacienda of Abiquiú Lake is not your typical B&B – it is an adults-only experience, a feast for the senses in a remote and quiet location. Modern luxuries, sophisticated services, green and eco-friendly – think of a small, boutique luxury inn – blended with authentic architecture and inspired design – think adobe and southwestern style. The combination, along with its award-winning hosts, make The Hacienda the best place to stay in gorgeous northern New Mexico. With only three suites, the Hacienda is an serene escape, a retreat nestled on a mesa top overlooking Abiquiu Lake, Ghost Ranch, the Red Cliffs, Pedernal, and plains of red, yellow, purple and green. Dramatically perched on a mesa top overlooking Abiquiú Lake, this brand new, elegant, high-end bed and breakfast offers a luxury experience in a location surrounded by quiet stillness. Located in the middle of Georgia O'Keeffe country, you will feel what she did when saying, "It's something that's in the air – it's different. The sky is different, the wind is different." This breathtaking land and the beauty of The Hacienda are sure to soothe, calm and inspire exploration. ?Staying here is all about the experience. Our guests arrive as strangers and leave as friends. This is an extraordinary bed and breakfast experience, the most luxurious lodging option in the area. Whether you want private, intimate time by yourselves or maybe you want to engage with others at a Happy Hour or join in a competitive game of Bocce Ball - the choice is yours! Evidenced by the photography, narratives and passion of companion properties listed on this site- and seared into the American imagination by the paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe- the Piedra Lumbre basin captivates; a thin place. From the edge of a mesa, Casita á Medida surveys it all: red cliffs forming Abiquiu Lake to the East, Ghost Ranch expanding to the North, Chama River Valley to the West and El Pedernal dominating the horizon to the South. Filling between are the ranges of Sangre de Cristo and the Jemez, Santa Fe National Forest and Kit Carson National Forest. And dark sky nights. To experience this area takes time, a lifetime pursuit of many. Days of hiking, fishing, boating, rafting, discovering petroglyphs, searching for fossils/ historic remnants; trips to Santa Fe, Taos, Ojo Caliente, Navajo Lake, Heron Lake, Chama, Pagosa Springs, Silverton and Durango, CO. Casita á Medida is designed with the long stay in mind. Built in the spirit of Northern New Mexico with deep deference to the surrounding landscape, Casita á Medida is a compound style retreat with one building housing dual master suites and another the great room, forming a protected patio third living space. The vast windows frame the art listed above (follow the changing forms of El Pedernal while preparing dinner; overlook the serenity of Ghost Ranch as you relax in the soaking tub). Inside melts to out. Designed to be completely off-grid, the site also features sustainable design such as passive solar mass, solar heat-boost for the domestic hot water and radiant floor heat, as well as gray watering, rain catchment and Holzer spirited permaculture supporting landscaping designed to further the circle. With dual master suites (featuring a King and Queen or Queen and two twins) and a separated great room/kitchen structure, Casita á Medida can be modified to meet the needs for your stay. Allow yourself the time to be able to appreciate the experience. Allow yourself permission that the enjoyment - and biggest achievement- was that the day was. Keywords: casita, vacation home

Please see important NOTE at the end of this description regarding RV's and other recreation vehicles. 'It was all so far away--there was quiet and an untouched feel to the country and I could work as I pleased.' Georgia O'Keeffe Serenity abounds at Casa Bonita, where it is easy to see why this country had such a profound impact on Georgia O'Keeffe. Light and open, this modern adobe rests on ten acres overlooking Abiquiu Lake towards Ghost Ranch, with gorgeous views in all directions. Picture windows throughout the living area allow you to appreciate the vistas from the comfort of the well-appointed interior. The covered portales (covered porches) are ideal for enjoying the tranquility of the environment. Admire the view of the Pedernal from the portale off of the master suite, or take in the iconic landscape of Ghost Ranch while you grill on the portale off of the kitchen. Spend your days hiking, visiting area galleries, or reconnecting with your own creative side. And after enjoying the unique sunset at the end of the day, savor the starlight of the unadulterated night sky. 'My first memory is of light--the brightness of light--light all around.' Georgia O'Keeffe NOTE: RV's, trailers of any sort, large trucks, and small vehicles: motorcycles, skimobiles and such are prohibited in this gated community, called High Mesas.

COVID POLICY: NEW MEXICO LAW HAS OPENED UP NM VACATION RENTALS TO EVERYONE, WHETHER THEY LIVE IN NM OR OTHER STATES, BUT THIS LAW IS ONLY EFFECTIVE FOR RENTALS BEGINNING JUNE 1 AND IT IS IN EFFECT THROUGH JUNE 30, 2020. AFTER JUNE 30, I will need to confirm that the governor of NM has extended the opening of vacation rentals to out of state residents. If you are NOT a resident of New Mexico, please feel free to book after JULY 1, and read our flexible COVID-19 Cancellation policy, offering FULL REFUNDS below. Our housekeeper is mindful of using bleach and other disinfectants, but of course no one can guarantee total purity. We are very isolated and you won't even need keys, so we believe our casita will be a welcome "away from home" respite for all those who feel the need to escape their own domiciles. IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL DUE TO THE COVID SITUATION AND NEW MEXICO'S LAWS RESTRICTING OUT OF STATE RENTERS, WE ARE VERY FLEXIBLE DURING THIS PANDEMIC. YOU WILL RECEIVE EITHER A FULL REFUND (OR A FULL CREDIT IF YOU CHOOSE IT) IF WE ARE UNABLE TO RENT TO YOU DUE TO NEW MEXICO LAW RESTRICTING US TO RENTING TO NEW MEXICO RESIDENTS ONLY, OR IF YOU CANCEL BASED ON POLICY RECOMMENDED BY HEALTH EXPERTS. NO QUESTIONS ASKED. ABIQUIU LAKE CASITA is located 75 min. north of Santa Fe, Abiquiu Lake Casita is far from highways and noise, but for the sounds of birds and wind. Our casita (small house) is set on 13.5 acres on top of one of the highest mesas overlooking Abiquiu Lake, with unlimited 360 degree views north toward the lake and Ghost Ranch and south towards the Jemez Mountains and Cerro Pedernal, the 10,000 foot flat-topped mountain that Georgia O'Keeffe loved to paint, making the mountain into an icon of northern New Mexico. Historically, Pedernal is a sacred site for Native Americans and local inhabitants. You can soak your body in a luxurious HOT TUB after a day of hiking, reading, painting, or writing. Our casita was designed in the traditional adobe style, including a Kiva wood- burning fireplace (wood provided), pine hand-hewn vigas that help support the ceiling; tile floors with radiant heating; and thick walls to hold the warmth in winter and keep you cool in summer, walls hand-plastered in the adobe style; and Mexican antique furniture. We added modern comfort throughout, including a modern and well-stocked kitchen, local art and track lighting on dimmers, and a spacious great room with a Mexican dining table that can be expanded with 3 leaves for art or writing projects. To take advantage of the long and wide views across the valleys, we built two 'portales' (covered porches). You can dine on the north side while gazing down the valley and across the lake towards the red cliffs of Ghost Ranch, or you can bask in the warmth of the sun--even in winter--on the southern portale, as you look towards the Jemez Mountains and Pedernal. Both portales are furnished with a comfortable outdoor dining set. There's also a recliner and a propane BBQ. Since there are no city lights to compete, billions of stars fill the night sky, part of the magic of New Mexico. Our favorite time for the hot tub is at night, gazing at the Milky Way and galaxies, frequently punctuated by numerous shooting stars; when it's not dark, moonlight bathes the rolling hills and desert floor. A Gentle warning: The views, the far off patterns of changing weather, and the warm coziness of the casita may make it difficult to leave the casita at all. Abiquiu Lake Casita was featured in New Mexico Magazine, November, 2011. PS: RESTRICTIONS: RV's, Trailers of any sort, large Trucks (over 3/4 ton), and small vehicles of any sort, (motorcycles, all terrain vehicles and such--are prohibited by neighborhood rules.

In the spring of 2010 Martinez Casita opened also for short term rentals. Conveniently located next to Barranca Plaza Casita, a favorite of many Ghost Ranch visitors for the last 7 years! Barranca is an old Hispanic hamlet just west of Abiquiu above the Chama River. On its small plaza there are a few adobe houses, one of which is this very charming one bedroom, one bath vacation home. The thick adobe walls have built-in banco's in the living area. Throughout the casita are tiled and wooden floors. A woodstove gives you great comfort in the winter. The thick walls keeps the house cool in the summer. A large garden with fruit trees surrounds the casita. In Barranca you will find a lively creek coming from the mountains. Follow the spring-fed creek up-stream and enter the Santa Fe National Forest with sensational views of the Abiquiu valley and the surrounding mountain lands. Badlands with goblin-like formations are nearby. The Chama River, along which are cattle ranches, is great for fishing. The casita is just minutes from Georgia O'Keeffe's home and a short drive from the Piedra Lumbre basin. Ghost Ranch is worth many visits and don't forget to drive out into the Chama River canyon to hike or visit the Benedictine Monastery. The Chama River Wilderness is paradise for explorers. The acequia, the traditional Hispanic community water system, is still held in high regard in Barranca. The mayordomo decides who irrigates when. The casita’s garden can be irrigated on Saturdays. Great day trips can be made to Ojo Caliente Mineral Hot Springs, Taos en Taos Pueblo, the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Chama (with the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad), Bandelier National Monument, Chaco Culture National Historic Park, Valle Grande, etc. etc. Family gatherings and reunions: Both Martinez Casita and Barranca Plaza Casita offer full privacy. Yet since the casitas are sitting together on one end of Barranca Plaza, they form an ideal gathering place for groups of eight family members or old school friends. BBQ facilities are provided and there are great shadowy spots to linger under the trees. Special rates are available when both casitas are rented. A beautifully appointed Adobe home that can accommodate up to 5 guests nestled in the village of Abiquiu, which is considered uniquely beautiful and a quiet and serene escape from the every day to recharge and rejuvenate. We provide a well-furnished house that is actually my family home so you won’t find a sparsely decorated “vacation rental. We provide freshly delivered coffee, excellent wifi, and Direct TV as well as a wonderful local caretaker to help with just about anything. My family home for the last 40 years, nestled in Abiquiu, in the beautiful Chama valley, in Northern New Mexico. Abiquiu is a quaint and eclectic gathering of both native New Mexicans and those in the know. The house was completely remodeling in 2005 from the roof to the floors. All new kitchen and amazing bathroom await you and you won't find is a hastily appointed 'vacation rental,' this is my childhood home, and it's been beautifully appointed with an eclectic combination of modern pieces and beautiful antiques. Far from stuffy and boring, this house can be your jumping off point for all sorts of adventures in northern New Mexico, whether you're venturing into Santa Fe to peruse art galleries or headed to Taos to enjoy some fun, this house can be your idyllic escape from the hectic every day of your life. It's such a beautiful and quiet place to be where the stars at night seem to go on forever. The experience of being in the village of Abiquiu is such a unique perspective on life. It's not like the polished, touristy side of New Mexico; this house is located in the same place that people settled hundreds of years ago in a government land grant and continued with their lives. The home is just a short walk to Georgia O'Keeffe's home and a short drive to Ghost Ranch. The area brings many repeat visitors and warrants new explorations with each visit. Take a drive into the Chama River Canyon to hike, visit the Benedictine Monastery, enjoy the hot springs at Ojo Caliente or simply embrace the enchanting nature of Abiquiu - allow yourself to enjoy it all. Please know that the house is located in the highest part of the village and the road can be slightly intimidating. We've never had any issues with guests accessing the house or being troubled by neighbors. Also, for clarity, the main bedroom is accessed through the second bedroom and the bathroom and kitchen are also off the second bedroom. The house flows from one room to the next as with most traditional adobe homes. The house resides in a rural community consisting of dirt roads which a few guests have found surprising. They are generally in good condition for most vehicles but we want our guests to be informed of this. Please be aware that this house sits next to other homes and that there are people around and there can sometimes be noise during the day. We ask that our guests be flexible, understanding, and practice open communication when it comes to the neighbors and things such as parking and occasional noise. These are good people just living their lives, just know it's not an isolated vacation rental. If you're looking for a unique experience, this is the house for you!

The Studios of Abiquiú Lake are economy guest rooms with queen-sized beds and inspiring views. Located on a mesa top above Abiquiu Lake, you will wake up every morning with spectacular lake and red rock views. The rooms are glamping at its best - defined as glamorous camping! Staying in The Studios is about the 'experience' - unplugging and disconnecting (if you choose to), immersing yourself in your surroundings, taking in the night skies and fresh air, hiking from your door, and recharging your spirit. The La Luna ("The Moon") guest room is about 150 sq ft and has a queen-sized bed, private bath, an oversized shower, private sliding door entrance, heat, air conditioning, hot water and spectacular views. The guest room is furnished with linens, towels, toiletries, a microwave, toaster oven and coffee maker. If you need a cooler for food products, just let us know and we will have one outside the room when you check in. Shared outside common areas include a BBQ grill, outdoor seating, as well as free parking. ?As small economy guest rooms, the The Studios do not have WiFi (although your cell phone should work find at the location and you can use your cell as a hot spot) or televisions. Bring all your food and drink provisions with you. Bring prepared foods or plan to prepare simple meals in the microwave, toaster oven or outside on the BBQ. Bring K-Cups for the coffee maker. The Studios are perfect additional rooms for nearby vacation home rentals. They are also great lodging options for solo travelers, couples, outdoor artists or those taking workshops at Ghost Ranch. If you don't need a lot of space or a kitchen, The Studios may be a great option for you. There are two separate guest rooms, each separated on each side of the building, with private entrances. We live nearby and are available should you need anything. We generally can respond in person or by text immediately. We do provide a code for the door so you can arrive anytime after the scheduled check-in time, without needing to coordinate with us.

Other things to know: - Pepe, our burro, Rosy, our pony, and Paddy and Black Berry, two rescue horses, live in the barn along with Noche and Dia, our barn cats. Our animals are friendly, however use of the barn and access to the animals is off limits to guests for safety reasons. The barn, outbuildings, corrals, and pasture areas are not included with the house rental. - River Access: guests are welcome to visit and play in the river from the property, however all do so at their own risk. Currents can be strong and we cannot vouch for the safety of playing in the river. - Wildlife: different kinds of animals (including coyotes), species of birds, reptiles (including rattle snakes) and insects live in abundance in this part of the world. There is exceptional natural beauty to be found here, both on the property and in nearby areas, but exploring the outdoor areas here is best suited for people who are comfortable with and love nature in all its manifestations.

Simple elegance in a traditional Adobe Home with spectacular views in every direction! Enjoy two well-appointed bedrooms, a kitchen equipped for foodies, a lovely skylit & tiled bathroom, washer/dryer, dishwasher, Nespresso coffeemaker, lux linens and handsome dishware. Luxuriate in the landscape beloved and made famous by Georgia O'Keeffe. The mountain she painted at least 28 times, Pedernal, is visible from the living room and the wraparound porch. Georgia joked of the majestic peak, "God said I could have it if I painted it enough!" Indeed, her ashes were released at the summit when sher died. The stunning 10-acre property also contains a small guest house, "La Biblioteca." This eclectic house has stone walls, a queen bed and a couch and/or single air mattress to sleep an additional 3 people. La Biblioteca can be rented together with Casa Tocaya, or separately in another listing. In either case, the nightly rental is $95. We enjoy renting to people from all backgrounds, religions, races, and gender identities, and we pay our housekeeper a living wage.

“Casa Paloma" is centrally located in Abiquiu (w/ good roads in! - a Prius can get to our house). Pete & I spend the fall & winter & into early spring in our new New Mexican home, thoroughly enjoying our time there. We stay with an eye to updates & making it a comfortable stay for our summer/early fall guests. We've added additional seating to the lovely portal & viewing patio, as well as a table for outdoor dining on the portal. Pete has built a solid picnic table for the back patio, outside the kitchen, for breakfast dining, or shady meals in the afternoon or evening. He also built a fine, new 'convertible' bench/table for the upper balcony, for meals there or creative endeavors. In the fall of 2018 he & I built a 2 bay carport, to shade vehicles from the most intense summer sun & from surprise thunderstorms with hail. We have many artists who enjoy the breathtaking views that Paloma offers (myself included) & we have made it possible to work from several locations. We have also added new 'SmartSheers' in both bedrooms, to block the hot afternoon SW sun. Our kitchen is roomy & we love to cook many a gourmet meal there - so bring your groceries in & enjoy! (We supply spices & herbs, condiments, usually coffee & a small selection of teas. We also offer dish & sensitive-skin laundry detergents, a washer/dryer - & even a clothesline, which I use regularly...) We leave Casa Paloma in late-April, kicking & screaming as we love our stays in NM so much - but we leave a beautiful, comfy home for you to use as headquarters for your own northern NM adventuring... We ask that you be respectful of our home & hope that you also thoroughly enjoy the beauty & majesty of place that it offers, there above the El Rito Creek bosque. (We listened to it happily gurgling below us during our entire stay. Oh, & did I mention the incredible quiet nights & those unstoppable stars?... If you're looking for a private, natural getaway, Casa Paloma is IT...) ***A Sweet Surprise!! As of 2021 we now offer HORSE FACILITIES! We have fenced the large front area of our property with 4-1/2' high no-climb horse fencing with a two-stall barn & corral. Bring a couple of horses, your hay, grain & buckets & enjoy ride-outs straight from our front yard! You can ride for miles into the arroyo, just below us, or ride through the plateaus in Prado Valley, where we live (please don't ride cross open fields, which would be neighbors yards), or you can take trails in nearby Carson or Santa Fe Nat'l Forests, just short trailer-rides away. And there is lots of room in the circular driveway to park your rig. Talk with Laura, if you would like to bring your equines to Casa Paloma. Charge is $25 per horse, per night. No stallions, rowdy horses or cribbers, please... We are in the middle of many historic & recreational sites: Carson Nat'l Forrest is 4 miles north on 554; El Rito village is 8 miles north; the old Abiquiu village is about 7 miles away, along w/ the Abiquiu PO. Bode's General Store, where locals & visitors gather for food & cheer, groceries & gifts, is across the road. Just up Hwy. 84 is Abiquiu Lake - w/ summer recreational activities & beautiful views. Ghost Ranch, where Georgia O'Keeffe painted, is just beyond - about 25 minutes from Casa Paloma). Ghost Ranch now offers many workshops, plus hiking & horseback riding & a fine new history museum, featuring dinosaur fossils found in the area! Close by is Christ in the Desert Monastery, where one can drive 14 scenic & bumpy miles to secluded peace & check out what the Monks are doing. Awesome Echo Amphitheater is nearby & a bit further up the road is Chama & Tierra Amarilla, two charming northern New Mexico communities, about an hour's drive north. These villages are on the doorstep of Pagosa Springs - in Colorado. Durango - a lively little western town - is just 3-1/2 hours from Casa Paloma. The ancient Anasazi ruins of Mesa Verde are just west of Durango - and the Four Corners of UT/AZ/CO & NM are just beyond that - so all this adventure is just one days drive away! The Grand Canyon is about 7 hours west of us. (Santa Fe & Taos are all within an hour's drive, south or north of us.) Los Alamos glows directly south of us, with a fine library, a swimming pool, a large & modern Smith's grocery store - and all the scientific history of atoms & bombs one could imagine. Jemez (hot) Springs; Cliff dwellings of Bandelier Nat'l Monument; the ancient & verdant volcanic caldera of Valle Grande & Puye Indian Ruins are all right in this area. Any one of these (or a combination) make for a fine day's exploratory of culture & natural beauty within a 45 minute drive. Any of these offer wonderful hiking. Golf?... Well, there are three terrific desert courses! Black Mesa Golf, just south of Espanola, is a half an hour away & offers very nice greens. Buffalo Thunder Casino, about 15 minutes further south, towards Santa Fe, has a terrific (Hilton Resort caliber 27-hole) course, with food, drink & gambling waiting in the wings. Los Alamos also offers a fine public course. Hiking is everywhere you turn, out in these huge, vast-skyed lands, starting with walking out the driveway & down the arroyo, just below us on Fort Defina Drive. Take a left & spend tranquil time by the El Rito Creek, a sweet seasonal stream just below our home. We've hiked through the 'neighborhood' and have thoroughly enjoyed the climb & the trails that meander right here at home (a terrific area to walk your dogs). Peace, photos & views abound. Once booked & paid, we offer a comprehensive list of area hiking, biking & riding for your adventure outings. Plaza Blanca - famous in Abiquiu for its geology & beauty - is about 7 miles away, down off of County Road 155. If you're a hiker, you cannot miss a stay here without a least one mind-boggling trek in to these awe-inspiring white cathedral rocks. (An interesting tidbit is that the closing scene of "Cowboys & Aliens" was filmed in Plaza Blanca, along with many, many other Hollywood westerns of yesteryear & recently.) Note: Plaza Blanca was closed during Covid-19, then reopened by registration to only local residents. If interested in this, contact Pete for the email address needed to request permission and get the access code to the locked gate(s). It or may not be available for hiking at the time of your stay, as they close it during movie filming And, of course, no visit to Abiquiu - O'Keeffe country - is complete until one has explored Santa Fe, only an hour's drive southeast. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum awaits you, in the historic Plaza, as well as an untold amount of world-class art galleries on famous Canyon Road, art & clothing boutiques, fine shopping, fine dining, an abundance of grocery stores & antique shops... the list is endless. The Rail Runner train can take you on down to Albuquerque, even, to explore Olde Town!... So MUCH to do; so little time... If you want to explore the ancient church with the famous 'healing dirt' the 200-year-old El Santuario de Chimayo' sits outside the old village of Chimayo'. This is one of my personal favorites in the area, with a blend of Catholic history & mysticism that moves my spirit to tears. This is known as the "Lourdes of the Southwest"; thousands pilgrimage here annually for the "tierra bendita" at Easter and at Christmas. Be sure to allow time to explore el santuario & its adjacent chapels & gift shop. Afterwards, I suggest you take in a meal at the Rancho de Chimayo' Restaurante, a local favorite, full of old Mexican atmosphere, great food, & both indoor & lush outdoor dining. A trip to Taos is an hour, or so, further north, either along the "River Road" (paralleling the Rio Grande) or explore the "High Road", through tiny & creative ancient villages. One of them is Truchas (where "The Milagro Beanfield War" was filmed in the 1970s. Robert Redford directed this timeless movie. It became the village of Milagro - where miracles still do occur.) Other villages, with old Catholic churches, along the High Road are Cordova, Ojo Sarco, Las Trampas & Penasco - all creative centers - winding thru' the scenic Santa Fe Nat'l Forest into Rancho de Taos. Here you will find one of the most photographed churches in America: Santuario San Francisco de Asis. Taos, itself, offers up its own Plaza, culture & artistic history, as well as the famous Taos Pueblo, where Tewa Indians still make drums. The Taos Pueblo is one of the oldest continually-habitated civilizations in the United States. Just outside of Taos is found one of the highest bridges in the world: the Rio Grande Gorge River Bridge, where one can drive (or walk) over & hear the reverberate echoes off great ancient walls plunging down 800 ft. to the Rio Grande River - which looks tiny from this perspective. NOT for those afraid of heights or the faint of heart! ***The Abiquiu area is a magnet to history, creativity, culture & natural beauty. To artists, photographers, poets & writers, scientists & outdoor adventurers. Please enjoy your outings, then return to our portal or patio & relax into a quiet night of brilliant stars in a vast open sky. Casa Paloma awaits.

Casa Ambrosia is nestled in total peace and privacy, surrounded by tall cottonwood, pine, and oak trees, with an expansive view of the pastoral river valley of El Rito and the majestic Sangre de Cristo mountains off in the distance. This wonderful, comfortable, and serene hideaway accommodates 4-5 people. The uniquely designed passive solar adobe house with high wood ceilings and impressive vigas is spacious and filled with light. There is a large semi-circular sun room, built like a sunken kiva, that is designed after Casa Grande in Chaco Canyon. A fireplace adds to the warmth and comfort of the radiant floor heat. And along with great indoor living and dining spaces, there is a covered patio for outdoor dining and relaxation. A newly added hot tub on the front patio is perfect for relaxation and stargazing year round. Nearby forest roads lead you to high mountain meadows filled with wildflowers and streams and breathtaking views, or off into desert canyonlands, with red cliff walls and towering rock formations. In winter, snowshoeing and cross country skiing are great pastimes. Year round, the very clear night sky is perfect for stargazing. The historic village of El Rito has it's own charm, including a well-supplied library, a traditionally-built adobe church, and El Farolito, a small family restaurant, world famous for its authentic northern New Mexico cuisine, recommended in the Rand McNally Road Atlas and Gourmet Magazine. Part of a lovely organic farm along the Chama River in Medanales, neighboring Abiquiu. The casita sleeps two comfortably in the bedroom with queen size bed and can accomodate an additional child or adult in the loft. The cozy casita has a small living/kitchen area, a full bathroom with Mexican tile, and a separate bedroom. The loft is accessed through the bedroom. There is a covered portal with a wood stove and comfortable furniture on the front of the casita overlooking the vineyard and fields. The casita is screened from the main house and is oriented toward the gardens, fields and vineyard. The flagstone patio borders the acequia, the traditional irrigation canal for the farm, and looks out over farmland and down to the cottonwood trees bordering the river. A small bridge leads across the acequia into the vineyard and old orchard. Guests are invited to enjoy seasonal produce. You can also walk the 1/2 mile down the lane along the farm fields and through the meadow land to banks of the Chama River and enjoy the peacefulness of the river from the shaded campsite at the riverbank with picnic table and chairs and firepit. Nearby the farm, hiking and riding trails lead to BLM and National Forest lands offering a variety of landscapes to enjoy -- vast open mesas, arroyos to explore, pine forests, mountain vistas. Also nearby are the ruins of little-known old Indian settlements. Ojo Caliente with its fabled hot springs and spa facilities is a short drive from the farm. Medanales is a small village with a Hispanic population and tradition just south of Abiquiu of Georgia O’Keeffe fame. The landscape varies from pastures to badlands, with the magic Cerro Pedernal and Sierra Negra on the horizon. Both can be climbed by the more experienced hiker. Ghost Ranch and the wide and splendidly colored Piedra Lumbre basin are nearby, as is Plaza Blanca with its white sandstone formations. Espanola, the main town in this predominantly Hispanic area, is 15 minutes away. Quite a few interesting restaurants that serve local cuisine (with red or green chili!) can be found here. Using southwestern elements and handcrafted furnishings the high ceilinged living room has a kiva fireplace, cozy down filled white sofas in an open floor plan with a dining area that seats 10. The gourmet kitchen boasts a Viking Range, Asko DW, concrete counters, and a complete pantry. A few steps up from the living room by mesquite stairs is a quiet den complete with TV and a day bed that sleeps 2. Two ample bedrooms (king and queen beds) have tiled ensuite baths. A large eastern portale facing the mountains is complete with outdoor fireplace. The house sits snugly on 30 + acres and borders the State Land with trails down to the Chama River. There is a separate bathhouse with sauna and serene resting room. Wonderfully landscaped with desert flowers, the home is a peaceful and beautiful retreat. Indian ruins are within walking distance. Do not forget to hike along the ancient arroyo to the Chama River. Wildlife can be seen from the huge windows, which lend this home passive solar heat. Built on several levels this architectural home has beautiful fenestration which encompasses views from every angle. Close by are the old Abiquiu pueblo, the non-excavated ruins of Poshuouinge, plus San Juan, Santa Clara and San Ildelfonso Pueblos. Not to be missed are Ghost Ranch where Georgia O'Keeffe had her studio, Christ in the Desert Monastery, Abiquiu Lake, the Piedra Lumbre basin. Colorful mesas give way to high mountains with Alpine meadows. From late March through November the Georgia O'Keeffe house in Abiquiu is open for guided tours. Santa Fe and Taos are nearby for day trips. So are Chaco Canyon, Chama, Pagosa Springs, CO, Los Alamos and the Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs. You might want to come out when the cottonwood trees are yellow and orange during the annual Abiquiu Studio Tour (Columbus Day weekend) in October, or one week later for the El Rito Studio Tour. All seasons in Northern New Mexico are sensational. Additional Information: We have a free internet phone which is connected to wifi. Flat screen tv and dvd player with plenty of good films and books. All pets are welcome in our home. We do charge $ 10/day for for extra cleaning.

La Lomita is located in the area where La Familia Valdez has a 300 year history. La Lomita was conceived, designed and built with hospitality and spirituality in mind. It is a place of healing and rest, of relaxing and dreaming, of renewal. It holds mystery in the howling coyotes, the whispering junipers, the shifting arroyos, and the colorful wildlife. Bienvenidos! Nuestra casa es su casa. Read our wonderful reviews and let our many guests describe the La Lomita experience. (See review section) Nestled into the Black Mesa, La Lomita is the hub surrounded by Abiquiu to the northwest, Ojo Caliente and Taos to the north, Chimayo to the east, and Española and Santa Fe to the south, all with local art and food just 10 to 55 minutes away. It is 12 miles from the relaxing mineral springs and spa at Ojo Caliente, and 30 minutes from Los Alamos and Bandalier National Monument. The spectacular Santa Fe Opera is 30 minutes away, as is its neighbor, the Santa Fe Flea Market with treasures made by 'artesanos' from Mexico, Guatemala and other native areas (open in Spring and Summer). On the way to Taos, via the High Road through Truchas or the route along the Rio Grande through Velarde with the Black Mesa Winery, you will find beautiful scenery and native Hispano-made tin work, retablos, santos, and weaving from traditions begun hundreds of years ago. River rafting in the Rio Grande or floating over the river gorge in a hot air balloon, are adventures waiting for all ages, as are the ski trails and golf courses, all in close proximity to La Lomita. Stay at home and climb the Black Mesa, part of our 9 acre 'back yard', and if you reach the top (about 45 minutes of spectacular climbing), wander across the top of the Mesa and see the Rio Grande flowing below. Or grab your easel and paints, camera or writing pad, and capture the breath-taking, mountain scenes all around you. Need to relax? Try tai-ch, yoga or gentle walking around our juniper, piñon and desert-flowered landscape, and let the many visiting songbirds lull you into a peaceful siesta. Keywords: On 9 acres, solar adobe home with covered portal (porch) facing the Jemez mountains, designed with quiet and the spiritual in mind. The terrain, including the mesa high above the house, suggests privacy. ¡Se habla español!
